LEVERAGING sustainable fisheries to build the africa we want

Result 1:
Enhanced regional policies and institutional frameworks to secure more sustainable fisheries management and contribute to marine biodiversity and climate resilience.

E€OFISH strives to assist the EA-SA-IO region in improving its policies and frameworks for better management and use of its inland and marine coastal fisheries resources, which could be a strong economic lever for the countries concerned. This support includes the provision of scientific and economic data for informed decision-making; an assessment of individual needs, strengths and problems; as well as  awareness raising, advocacy and political dialogue.

These actions will be carried out for :

The marine fisheries of the EA-SA-IO region
The shared fisheries of Lake
The shared fisheries of Lake

Result 2:

Strengthened capacity to prevent, deter and eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing in the EA-SA-IO region.

In order to combat IUU fishing, which causes economic and environmental losses as well as insecurity for the EA-SA-IO region, a regional fisheries monitoring program was launched in 2007. This initiative aims to pool the existing resources of the coastal countries of the region, by carrying out targeted and dissuasive controls based on the analysis of fleets’ activities using data relevant to the scale of action of each fishery.

E€OFISH continues the implementation of this programme and works for:

The marine fisheries of the EA-SA-IO region
The shared fisheries of Lake
The shared fisheries of Lake

Result 3:

Concrete fisheries management and governance initiatives in small-scale inland and marine fisheries are supported with the possibilities of replication at the regional level.

The inland and marine coastal fisheries resources of the EA-SA-IO region represent a natural wealth of about € 50 billion. E€OFISH strives to ensure the sustainable management of these assets by putting in place policies to handle them effectively,  by protecting them and by promoting good fishing practices.
